With the arrival of fall, the homecoming season approaches Lakewood High School beginning on Oct. 2 with a week of fun dress-up themes. Lakewood will then play Normandy on Oct. 6, and the week will conclude on Oct. 7 with a themed dance.
This year’s Spirit Week will take place from Oct. 2 to Oct. 6. The themes are listed below.
- Monday: Athlete vs. Mathlete
- Tuesday: Beach vs. Ski
- Wednesday: Frat vs. Sorority
- Thursday: Country vs. City
- Friday: Class Colors (freshmen wear black, sophomores wear yellow, juniors wear white, seniors wear purple)
The Lakewood Times interviewed a few students about their thoughts on the Spirit Week themes. One junior commented, “I don’t remember what they are exactly but I feel like they are better than they have been in the past… I like the versus thing. I think that works out pretty nicely; I think the city vs. country one is cool. And the frat theme is going to be funny.” Another student said, “I kind of think they are boring, pretty standard, and I also think that they should change the freshmen color back to red.” It seems like the students of Lakewood High School have some mixed feelings about this year’s themes.
That brings us to the theme of the homecoming dance: Enchanted Forest! In response to this theme, one student said, “Enchanted Forest? I think it is not the best theme for a homecoming, but it is definitely more creative than the Spirit Week stuff. But at the same time, I can’t imagine how it’s going to play out.” We have interviewed more students about their opinions on the subject and although some see potential in the theme, the majority feel disappointed.
Don’t let that dampen your enthusiasm; let’s remember that homecoming is a way of receiving former students and welcoming new students. So make sure you buy your ticket to the dance; it is just $20! You can purchase your ticket in-person in the Book Room or through this link.
