On Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m, the Holy Name Green Wave Boys Basketball Team headed to Lakewood to face off against the Rangers. Lakewood and Holy Name were the top two teams leading the Great Lakes Conference (GLC) heading into this game. Coming into this game, Lakewood was 5-0 in the conference, and Holy Name at 3-0, so this game was a must win for both teams on their road to the conference championship.
Following Lakewood’s heartbreaking loss in overtime last year at Holy Name, the Rangers came into this game looking for revenge at their home court. Before halftime, one of our starting five players, Luke Vanucci, hit a three-pointer as time ran out to tie it up heading into the half. However, the Namers came in pretty hot towards the end of the game. After a hard-fought game and Lakewood coming back from down 12 with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, they still came up short 82-78, and their record dropped to 5-1 in the GLC. Senior Luke George said “The guys played as hard as possible and gave everything they could to get the win, they all played amazing but it just didn’t end up the way we wanted. We have a special group of guys that will get the job done and we’ll see them on Feb. 16.”
Next up, Lakewood is playing in Painesville at Riverside High School on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 6:30 p.m.. Cheer on the Lakewood Rangers as they have a chance at another conference game!
