On February 10th, the sixty-first Grammys was broadcasted on CBS at 8 o’clock eastern time. The ceremony was held at the Staples Center located in Los Angeles, California. The host this year was Alicia Keys, the American singer and song writer.
The 2019 Grammy Awards were opened with the song “Havana” performed by Camila Cabello; she was later joined by Young Thug who helped finish out the performance. Along with the opening number, some other notable performances include Lady Gaga’s, Alicia Key’s, Dolly Parton’s, Diana Ross’, and Miley Cyrus with Shawn Mendes.
Leading the pack with eight nominations was Kendrick Lamar, following him with seven was Drake. Six other known and newcomers (Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Childish Gambino, etc.) tied for a total of five nominations each.
There were definitely some surprising moments and winners throughout the show, but all of them were very accepting of the winner. Here is a list of the most popular winnings of the evening.
Best New Artist: Dua Lipa
Record of the Year: “This is America” by Childish Gambino

Wendy Powers, a long time Grammy watcher, stated, “The performances this year were exceptionally good compared to the last couple. It is very obvious that all the performers were glad to be singing and doing what they love.”
Overall, the 61st Annual Grammy Awards were an absolute success. Alicia Keys did an amazing job performing and hosting, other performers excelled in their songs, and the individuals who won were very deserving of their winnings.
